At the Surajkund International Crafts Fair in Faridabad, authorities have arrested the owner of the company that installed a high-speed amusement swing and an associated supplier after the spectacular collapse of the ride on Saturday evening. The giant ‘Tsunami’ pendulum swing suddenly snapped mid-air, killing a police inspector who had rushed to help trapped riders and leaving more than a dozen visitors injured. Police registered an FIR under culpable homicide not amounting to murder and allege potential lapses in installation, inspection and safety compliance by the operators.
In response to the tragedy, a multi-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to examine the mechanical failure, regulatory oversights and accountability of those involved. The SIT will probe whether mandatory daily inspections, safety certifications and operational protocols were followed before the ride was allowed to operate. Officials have indicated more individuals could be questioned as the investigation unfolds, while the affected amusement zone remains sealed pending the outcome of the inquiry.
