A fraud gang has been active in the Manchar area of Pune district, targeting residents by offering gold at unusually low prices. Police and local residents have raised concerns after multiple incidents of cheating were reported, where victims were tricked into buying fake gold jewellery and coins. The gang reportedly approached women and small business owners, claiming they had discovered gold during demolition work and wanted to sell it cheaply, which led several people to fall into the trap. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid purchasing gold from unknown individuals.
In recent incidents, victims were shown samples of real gold to build trust before being sold counterfeit ornaments worth large amounts of money. Some victims hesitated to file official complaints due to fear of embarrassment, but police have warned that such scams are increasing and encouraged people to report suspicious activity immediately. Officials also advised residents to verify gold purchases through certified jewellers and avoid cash deals with strangers to prevent financial losses and fraud.
