India’s Parliament has commenced a crucial special session from April 16 to 18, 2026, focusing on major electoral reforms including the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill and a proposed delimitation exercise. The government is set to introduce key legislation that aims to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies starting from the 2029 general elections. However, the delimitation proposal has triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, who argue that redrawing constituency boundaries based on population could disproportionately impact southern and smaller states.
