Authorities in Bengaluru are focusing on large-scale lake restoration and development projects aimed at reviving the city’s rapidly disappearing water bodies. Once famously known as the “city of a thousand lakes,” Bengaluru has experienced severe ecological pressure due to urban expansion, pollution, and encroachments. To address these challenges, civic agencies are planning initiatives to rejuvenate several lakes by improving water storage capacity, removing accumulated silt, and strengthening lake boundaries.
Officials say that the development works will include building walking paths, strengthening embankments, installing fencing, and preventing sewage inflow into the lakes. Such projects aim not only to restore the ecological balance but also to create cleaner public spaces for residents. Bengaluru currently has hundreds of lakes under civic administration, and multiple restoration projects are underway to protect these important urban water resources for the future.
