A tragic road accident in Kurnool district has claimed the lives of at least eight pilgrims from Karnataka after their vehicle collided with a lorry near Mantralayam. The incident occurred near Chilakaladona village, leaving over a dozen others injured. According to officials, several victims died instantly while others succumbed to injuries during treatment. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. An ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will receive ₹50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Leaders across the country have conveyed condolences, calling the incident deeply distressing as the victims were reportedly traveling for a religious visit.
